An Analysis of a New Carrier Sensing Scheme for Unidirectional Bus Csma Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
A new carrier sensing scheme for CSMA protocols on unidirectional bus topologies is proposed and analyzed. Several existing networks such as cable TV data networks and the well known broadband Ethernet (IEEE 802.2 10BROAD36) have unidirectional bus topology. The proposed scheme combines carrier sensing on the inbound and the outbound channels. Distances to the head end are specifically included in our model using space-time techniques. The analysis is carried out for the case of nonpersistent CSMA protocol. Several load distributions are investigated numerically. Signiicant increase in throughput is observed, especially when the stations are clustered on the opposite side from the head end. The probability of success for a test packet conditioned on the distance from the head end is calculated. This probability is used to discuss fairness of the proposed protocol.

The IEEE 802.3 and 802.11 standards are used to define CSMA/CD (Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection) based on the Ethernet LAN (Local Area Networks) and Wireless LAN (WLAN) protocol, respectively. This report deals with the comparison of IEEE 802.3 and IEEE802.11 MAC protocol in terms of the physical and medium access control (MAC) layer. CSMA/CD Ethernet-based protocol is th...

In this paper, we propose a novel adaptive carrier sense multiple access scheme with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) to perform efficient and reliable data transfer with increased throughput across multiple coexisting wireless body area networks (BANs) in a tiered architecture. We investigate the proposed scheme using two distributed cross-layer optimized dynamic routing techniques, i.e., shortes...

Abstract. In this paper, we propose a new medium access control protocol for wireless sensor networks, named LE-MAC (Latency and Energy aware MAC) that aims to minimize data delivery latency as well as energy consumption. To achieve both goals, we exploit a physical carrier sensing feature in CSMA/CA and combine it with a cross-layer technique. When nodes that are in routing path between source...

In this paper, the performance of the carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) protocol at MAC layer with sensing errors at physical layer is investigated. Here the sensing errors are captured by modifying the Markov chain model widely used for the CSMA/CA analysis called Bianchi’s model. We investigate the throughput as a function of carrier sensing error probabilities:...

Wireless sensor networks based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard are able to achieve low-power transmissions in the guise of low-rate and short-distance wireless personal area networks (WPANs). The slotted carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) is used for contention mechanism. Sensor nodes perform a backoff process as soon as the clear channel assessment (CCA) detects a b...
